How does this work
In order to manufacture a pair of ProtectHear ear pieces we need to take a precise impression of your and each user’s ears.

back to the FAQ's

What are impressions
A cast of your ear shape. This is a simple process using 2 part fast setting non allergenic silicon, a small foam stop is placed into the ear canal and the silicon which has the consistency of putty is gently squeezed into the full shape of the ear – the canal, the helix and the concha bowl.

back to the FAQ's

How long does the process take
Generally about 10 minutes per person, though 3 can be done in 15-20 minutes.

back to the FAQ's

How are they manufactured
The impression is trimmed to remove the excess, any faults are filled and this is then used to make a plaster cast. This cast is then the basis for making the unique pair of ear plugs. After pouring the plugs are dressed and are ready to be made into solid or vented systems.

back to the FAQ's

What are they made from?
Non-Allergenic medical grade soft silicone and shore hardness of 20.

back to the FAQ's

What is vented?
ProtectHear that has a channel through it, in which is placed a passive acoustic noise filter. This reduces high frequency industrial noise, whilst maintaining the ability of the user to hear speech, shouted warnings and to use phones and radios.

back to the FAQ's

How does the acoustic filter work?
The passive filter is an inverted cone of precise dimensions that allows certain wave amplitudes to pass through. Download the Brochure

back to the FAQ's

What is solid?
ProtectHear that does NOT have a channel giving additional protection in extreme noise environments.

back to the FAQ's

What protection do they give? Vented is 29SNR
Solid is 31 SNR

back to the FAQ's

What is SNR
It is the statistical result of comparing the protection (attenuation) given at the different frequencies. It is an overall assumed protection and all hearing protection is measured in this way. The information is tabulated on the back of the brochure. Download the brochure here

back to the FAQ's

Are they approved

Yes, they have been tested in accordance with ISO BS EN352-2 by Salford University School of Acoustics and 3rd party verified against the ISO standard by Inspec Accreditation Services.

Additionally, Swinden Technology Laboratories the technical department of Corus UK Ltd ran a real-world trial on the Corus Scunthorpe site which resulted in ProtectHear being approved for use by Corus UK.

The Blue food grade ProtectHear was developed in conjunction with and is approved by Masterfoods, Slough (Mars)

The blue ProtectHear with a special white cord and a plastic packing tub has also been approved by Imperial Tobacco’s Additives Guidance Panel as being toxicologically inert.
